About Me
I grew up in a family of 7; two sisters and two brothers. I’m the youngest of 3 girls. When I was 12 years old my parents enrolled us girls in a local Mexican music school because my oldest sister wanted to sing and play guitar. The goal was for us to form a band. My other sister took up keyboard and I was put on drums. I don’t think I really understood what was going on. I just went with it. After some time of learning and playing I knew that I loved to play drums and my parents bought me my first red drum set that same year. We played several gigs as an all girl Latin band but a few years later our music taste changed to Hard Rock and mine eventually added Metal. We grew obsessed with the song ‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries and bands like Nirvana, Radiohead and Sonic Youth. These influences led us to start an all girl rock band called Mystery Hangup. We worked hard as an independent band. We had a set weekly practice schedule, played locally often, and even recorded an album and booked a few tours in the states. In 2006 I took a slight detour and played the Vans Warped Tour in another all girl electronic punk band.
Sacred Storm, Nekromantix
To satisfy my appetite for heavier and louder music, I started another band on the side; a Thrash Metal band called Sacred Storm. We were active for about 4 years, we played a lot of local shows and also booked our own west coast tour and later a 7-week nationwide tour. We wrote and recorded a couple albums. We weren’t signed to a label; we funded everything out of pocket and with help from our supportive fans. Eventually, both Mystery Hangup and Sacred Storm came to an end and we all went our own separate ways. It was about that time that Kim from Nekromantix found me online and asked me to audition for them. I had known who they were; I listened to them in high school and even caught a show when they did one of their first tours in the states. After my audition he leaned over, shook my hand and said “you’re hired”. The first couple tours we did together were opening for Reverend Horton Heat and later that year as direct support for Rob Zombie. In about 6 years that I was in the band we recorded the album “What Happens In Hell, Stays In Hell!” and toured extensively in the U.S., Europe, Russia, Australia… I enjoyed performing in the band and meeting our fans around the world but grew to miss playing metal music. In 2014 I decided to leave the band so that I could get back to playing metal again.
And then I sprained both of my knees.
